SI: What does it mean to have Biff Busick return to Beyond Wrestling? What are his most memorable highlights in Beyond? Does his return set the bar even higher for current Beyond talent?

DC: Beyond Wrestling is and always has been unconventional. When Biff Busick moved back to New England after training with Funaki in Texas, he didn't know what to make of it but he knew he wanted to be involved. At the time a Japanese wrestler named Taka Suzuki was also living in Massachusetts training with Brian Fury at the New England Pro Wrestling Academy. No other promotions in the area would set up the match so Biff and Taka did a match at a studio taping which immediately garnered the attention of prominent wrestlers on the Beyond Wrestling roster as well as local promoters.

Eventually, Biff Busick became synonymous with Beyond Wrestling. His series of matches against Eddie Edwards put Beyond Wrestling on the map. For months Biff insisted that there was nobody else in wrestling that he could have a better match with than Eddie despite never sharing a ring with him. His impromptu match with Eddie Edwards at "We Care A Lot" in June of 2013 was so good that we had no choice but to let them main event the first ever "Americanrana" card the following month. Their 60-minute Iron Man Match at "Tournament For Tomorrow II" is still regarded as the best match in Beyond Wrestling history.

Having Biff Busick, now NXT's Oney Lorcan, make an appearance at our "Heavy Lies The Crown" event on New Year's Eve in Worcester, MA further legitimizes Beyond Wrestling which is what our goal has been all along. We have certainly carved our own unique path within the wrestling industry but there is no denying our influence. That is one of the reasons that we've attracted so many of the best up-and-coming and overlooked wrestlers in the United States. If I'm one of the competitors that has been grinding it out, carrying the Beyond Wrestling banner since Oney Lorcan debuted in NXT, I'm gonna be pissed off that he's on the poster and I'm not! I hope it motivates our wrestlers to put on the best show possible because we will be playing to our biggest audience ever.

SI: The "Heavy Lies The Crown" card is loaded. What was your goal when crafting the card?

DC: Our goal for our live event on 12/31 is to deliver an "Americanrana"-caliber card. "Americanrana" is our biggest annual show of the year. In July of 2017 we set an attendance record with just under 500 paid fans for our event at The White Eagle in Worcester, MA headlined by Matthew Riddle vs. Joey Janela for the first time ever and featuring other blockbuster matches like Donovan Dijak vs. David Starr, Lucha Bros vs. EYFBO, and Swoggle vs. Chuck Taylor in a TLC Match. I'm a very impatient individual and I don't want to wait until July 2018 to bring that kind of lineup back to New England! My dad, who has been very supportive over the years along with my mom, is the one who inspired the idea to run on New Year's Eve. I think it's one of those holidays where everyone wants to go out but nobody knows what to do. Personally, there's no other way *I'd* rather ring in the new year.

SI: Which match stands out most to you?

DC: Pretty much every match on the card could be the main event. The match that stands out most to me is Keith Lee vs. Josh Briggs. Keith Lee competed for nearly a decade in Texas before traveling to Rhode Island in May of 2016. Keith Lee's breakout performance against Donovan Dijak made him an overnight sensation. Since then, almost every major independent wrestling promotion in the United States has hosted the rematch. Donovan Dijak's final match before signing with WWE NXT was against Keith Lee at PWG "Battle Of Los Angeles" 2017 with Dave Meltzer giving the bout a perfect five star review.

Josh Briggs is a virtual unknown outside of New England heading into his New Year's Eve match against Keith Lee, but he's already being hyped up as "the next" Donovan Dijak by local pundits. That is an immense compliment, but that is also a very tough reputation to live up to. The former football player from Arizona is just as tall and agile as Donovan Dijak, but this could be Briggs' opportunity to step out of Dijak's shadow against Dijak's greatest rival. Keith Lee is an international wrestling star but that doesn't mean he's willing to share the spotlight and isn't going to want Briggs to make a name at his expense. Is there anything better than a SUPERHEAVYWEIGHT showdown?

SI: Are fans able to watch the show live?

DC: Absolutely. Tickets are on sale right now and selling fast! Nothing can replicate standing ringside with a beer in your hand, pounding the mat, cheering on the best independent wrestlers in the world, but our new multi-year deal with Powerbomb.TV now allows us to broadcast our events live to a worldwide audience. I strongly urge everyone reading this interview to sign up using promo code BEYOND for a 20 day free trial. That will allow you to stream "Heavy Lies The Crown" FOR FREE on New Year's Eve as well as unlimited access to Powerbomb.TV's extensive catalog including Beyond Wrestling, Women's Wrestling Revolution, Preston City Wrestling, Absolute Intense Wrestling, Alpha-1 Wrestling, IWA Mid-South, Nova Pro Wrestling, Black Label Pro, and about 5 dozen other promotions.

If any fans are still on the fence then they better subscribe to our Youtube channel and like Facebook.com/independentwrestling since we'll be streaming a Special 2-Hour FREE Powerbomb.TV PreGame starting at 6pm on 12/31 on both platforms featuring UFC's "Filthy" Tom Lawlor, Powerbomb.TV Independent Wrestling Champion Jonathan Gresham, "Hot Sauce" Tracy Williams, Orange Cassidy, Zenshi, Brian Milonas, and more. I think it is really important that fans get to see the quality of the stream and the amazing Powerbomb.TV production. Our most recent "Powerbomb.TV PreGame" reached more than 10,000 fans which is a huge audience for independent wrestling. We are looking to blow those numbers away prior to "Heavy Lies The Crown" on New Year's Eve.

SI: How many matches will there be after the new year? Will you have a creative countdown in the ring?

DC: Just one - the Fans Bring The Weapons match between David Starr and Joey Janela to determine the ace of Beyond Wrestling. We will take a short intermission right before the main event to fill the ring with plunder and give fans a chance to grab a champagne toast. The moment that the clock strikes midnight the bell will ring and we'll have the honor of hosting the very first match of 2018 in a Beyond Wrestling ring. 2017 has been a wild year for pro wrestling and Beyond Wrestling gets to set the precedent for the next 365 days. 2018 is already shaping up to be our biggest year ever as we follow up "Heavy Lies The Crown" with "Spirit Of 76" on Saturday afternoon, January 27 - our debut in Philadelphia, PA. We're hoping fans that are in town for NXT Takeover and Royal Rumble can make the trek to the Chikara Wrestle Factory to experience the best independent wrestling on the East Coast in a super intimate environment because, let's face it, these are going to be the same wrestlers that fans will be watching on the WWE Network in 2019.
